Therapeutic Foster Care also known as Treatment Foster Care is a unique model of care that combines the best elements of family living with needed therapy. Children with special needs receive the structure and treatment they need in the nurturing and stable environment of a family home.
Clinical case coordinators, treatment foster parents and other professionals work as a team to develop a treatment plan for each child. This innovative model of providing foster care services to children and their families incorporates therapeutic interventions with a concurrent permanency planning approach for each child. Treatment foster parents receive intensive support, consultation and training by program staff.
The children of Therapeutic Foster Care range in age from infancy to 21 years. Some have emotional and behavioral problems or special medical needs. Others have mental retardation, seizure disorders, learning disabilities or problems stemming from chronic abuse or trauma. They need caregivers who can meet their serious physical, medical and emotional needs and help them learn to trust and form healthy relationships. They need to be part of a loving family.
